For the past handful of years, there has been a buzz around the health sector with people questioning if the traditional model is working as it should or if it is as efficient and humanised as it could be.
Earlier this month, Design Thinker Juliana Proserpio, spoke in-depth about the new paradigms of health in our day and age. One of the conclusions made by Proserpio's argument is that "the doctor's office can only give a patient so much", which brings us to Rebecca Onie.
Onie is the founder is Health Leads - "a national healthcare organisation that connects low-income patients with the basic resources they need to be healthy." (source Wikipedia). Her rhetoric makes you really question our health service traditional model that has us accustomed to being diagnosed and prescribed with medicine but seems to fail in teaching us how to stay healthy.
She started as a lawyer working on facilitating health solutions to unprivileged communities, and through her professional experiences, she has become a pragmatic system designer who is changing the health industry as we know it.
I invite you to watch Onie's Ted Talk, in which she shares her story and how she started Health Leads.
